Hello !
I’m Ashley Alva

About
My passion for ultrasound grew when my uncle with terminal cancer wasn’t allowed any more diagnostic imaging because the radiation accumulation would cause more damage than the cancer itself. Ultrasound on the other hand is an extremely safe imaging technique and is the first one we all went through when we were in our mother’s womb. Current research has shown that it not only can image these cute little babies safely but also diagnose cancers. So the utilities are many and my research tries to explore some of them. Firstly, my work looks into improving the quality of ultrasound imaging by making it crisper(resolution) and cleaner (SNR). Ever wonder what the heck you are looking at in an ultrasound image? yup, that’s what I’m trying to solve . Secondly, I am looking into making cancer diagnosis with ultrasound more robust so it actually goes into clinics so no one else’s family members have to be denied imaging. Ultrasound is indeed fascinating but everything has its limits so I basically start each of my experiments with “…but really how sound is ultrasound?” and its been pretty sound so far. So in summary, my research is looking into 1)using ultrasound for diagnosis of cancer and 2) improving resolution of ultrasound imaging so we can do #1. Also, shoutout to my lab, UBL lab where I get to do all this fascinating research.
TLDR: watch My 3 minute thesis
P.S- I plan to use this space to upload relevant notes related to my classes, some algorithms I developed and also some other fun stuff (which may include a rating of croissants across the country).
